After months of high-stakes negotiations, the Writers Guild of America has ratified a new contract that sets strict limits on how artificial intelligence can be used in the creative process.
Los Angeles — The Writers Guild of America ratified a landmark new contract with the major streaming services and studios that establishes some of the entertainment industry's first clear rules around the use of artificial intelligence in writing, according to union leadership.
Under the deal, AI-generated text cannot replace human writers, and any use of AI tools during production must be disclosed. Writers will also receive residual payments from AI licensing of their work.
